Doing what I can to improve my chances of making LIQUID GOLD (aka Breast Milk) Ever since I found out I was expecting, I started reading a lot of pregnancy books. "What to Expect when You're Expecting", "Baby Wise" etc. And all of them are in the consensus that feeding your little one breast milk is one of the best parenting decisions you can ever make. Breast Milk is a good way to bond with your newborn and to boost his or her immune system. It is no wonder the lactation market has seen a resurgence by offering things like "hospital grade" breast pumps, nipple creams (yes apparently I will need it!), nursing bras and most especially LACTATION AIDS. All of these are in support of the mantra "BreastMilk is best for babies" -- anything that can boost and help you with milk supply is offered. Unfortunately I live in the province where these things arent mainstream yet. I have had to rely on online stores to get the things that I need. (Thank you Internet!) Or on my own resourcefulness. Thus, I decided to make my own lactation cookies. I found this recipe on pinterest-- and as most lactation recipes-- its a simple equation: regular recipe + galactagogues = lactation aids. So what does galactagogues mean? (Deep Word!!) The milk promoting ingredients that most mommas recomment is Malunggay or Moringa. Unfortunately due to a blood condition I cant take iron-rich foods/supplements. So I had to look for alternatives. Luckily I found them : brewer's yeast and flaxseed powder. Again, they arent available locally where I am from but my sister was able to find them in HEALTHY OPTIONS. She bought a couple and sent them over by local courrier. Initially I was skeptical because upon opening the packaging of Brewer's Yeast I didnt like the smell and felt quite nauseated. But I followed through and the cookies turned out quite well! Hubby consumed 4 in one night! Dont worry I dont think eh will be producing any milk soon. (But that would make things immensely easier for us if we could both produce milk to feed the little one dont you think?) I've posted the recipe below in hopes that it helps other lactating moms (or moms-to-be) like myself. Enjoy! This recipe produced 38 cookies for me because I used a small cookie scooper. Even if you use just regular spoons I think it will net at least 2dozen pieced. Ingredients: 1 cup butter, softened 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 3/4 cup flour 3/4 cup baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 4 tbsp Brewer's Yeast (increase if you want, I actually used 5 tbsp) 3 tbsp flax seed powder (again, increase if you want. ) 2 cups choco chips
Enjoy!! :)

It's been 2017 for a few days now and life has been quite hectic for me for the past few days. I am also in the process of entering my third trimester which entails more doctor visits and tests. (In a few months I'd have a babe in my arms, how exciting!!)
So, to usher in the new year I'm posting here below my January Printable. I've already begun pencilling mine in with appointments, things to do and other stuff. How are you going to fill yours up? In any case, wishing you an awesome 2017 -- one that is full of happiness, prosperity and love. A very close friend of mine is getting married next year, she asked me to design a wedding logo for her -- something she could incorporate in her wedding. I was more than glad to comply especially since the growing baby bump will make me be unable to attend the actual festivities. (bummer!!)
She orginally asked for one that would mesh well with her "Starry" theme. So the original designs I sent her are the ones below. Looks quite different from how the finished product turned out. But I love how thr final one looks simple yet flirty at the same time. I love where this creative journey has taken me. Check it out my first wax seal design in thr flesh!! This year has seen a couple of firsts design wise for me. Its been quite a growth, one that I credit to friends who have asked me to do projects for them here and there.
One such friend is Ella, who has initially asked me to design her wedding suite but has involved to include so much stuff like a blog logo for her friend, bachelorette shirts, "Save the Date" cards and now THIS--- her wax seal for the upcoming wedding. Wax seals have been all the rage recently. I was initially tinkering with the idea of even having one made for myself but never got around to doing it. Good thing chance presented itself in this opportunity! Lucky also that there are local (and by local I mean within the country) suppliers who take in custom designs. I was able to make this logo quick enough and with a few design elements like a wreathe to go around the monogram, the design was readily sent to the wax seal manufacturer. Ella herself took these photos of the final product. It looks so gorgeous and romantic!! The wax seal adds such an old school flair that it makes wedding invitations look so regal and special with very little effort. Check out the photos below!! It's that time of year where everyone is feeling generous. So I thought, why not put out into the world wide web my "material" wishlist for this year. Who knows there might be someone out there who'd want some of these things too, or better yet wanna gift me something from this list! 1. COLOURPOP HOLIDAY 2016 COLLECTION I'm somewhat of a frustrated makeup junkie but when a video of this collection came out I was hooked! The metallics were just perfect for the season -- or for any occasion you want to shine. Plus the lipsticks were divine in the red, nude and dark hues that are all the rage. Plus BuzzFeed did a swatch on different skin types, so I'm guessing that this collection would match my Filipino Brown skin (Local term: Kayumanggi). Watch the video here! 2. BAGS BY RUBBERTREE Ever since I followed them on Instagram, I fell in love with their 100% handcrafted, local leather wares! I even ordered a his&hers wallet set for H&I during last year's anniversary. They even do customized work by adding your initials to their products. Plus, I adore how their leather feels -- soft, flexible and not at all heavy to lug around. Which is sometimes my problem with leather goods. What I'm currently crushing on are their saddle bags that come in cute pastel colors, or even vibrant magenta hues. You can check them out on Instagram IG: bagsbyrubbertree. All photos below were taken from their IG account. Don't they look delicious? 3. BABY STUFF This item isn't for me but for the little bump I've been sporting lately. Haha After finding out that we had a "Nugget" of our own, I've been scouring Pinterest, Facebook and parenting blogs for the cutest items a baby would need. I dont have much preferences except that it has to be uni-sex as much as possible so Baby no 2 could use them too. My go-to brands so far are Carter's, Avent, Gerber's etc. because of quality (100% cotton for clothes coz it's just so hot here). But so many mommies have also ben suggesting brands like Medela (for creams), Spectra (for breast pumps), Mothercare (just sooo expensive) and the like. Must be a sign of motherhood when for Christmas you would much prefer baby items rather than things for yourself. Haha Photos taken from Google Images. This is my Christmas 2016 wishlist so far. Might grow as the 25th approaches. Haha
But my true wish is for Peaceful, Loving, Caring Holidays for Everyone. Merry Christmas Guys!! |
