I have found the perfect thing that combines my 2 loves this season: calligraphy & metallics. Big shout out and thank you goes to Ate Shawie of Swirls and Stokes Ph (IG: @swirlsandstrokesph) now the big reveal: I got the 12 palette FINETEC Pearl Colors. So that's 12 gorgeous metallics that according to the box " can be used on nearly all surfaces". do you know what that means? endless projects and DIYs!! Finetec has been touted by many calligraphers, which has gotten me on a hoarding envy! luckily this palette was on sale so I grabbed up the chance since they sell like pancakes!! the paints are actually powder in form which you will have to dilute with water to get the consistency you'd want for brush or nib. i'm still researching online the "perfect" quantity so i don't over mix or under mix my paints. the palette is also very long-lasting -- you'll only need a little drop to go a long way in terms of strokes. boy am i giddy to use this especially for our christmas tags!! :) here are a few photos taken with my phone camera...come and drool with me!!

When i was still very much active on tumblr, i decided to post my 2014 Christmas Wishlist.
I'm happy to report that a few of them have already been granted and it's not even dec 25 yet!! let me enumerate:
This morning was dedicated to the young and young at heart. JCI Daraga with a host of other organizations joined the first ever Albay Youth Caravan which was held today in the Albay Astrodome. I personally saw many of our partner organizations such as the Philippine Army, Navy and Air Force. And the astrodome was jam-packed with kids from all over the province. This was first conceptualized because there has been rising incidents of adolescent pregnancy and school delinquency. To curb this trend, the youth caravan aimed to provide seminars ranging from proper nutrition to anti bullying in order to equip the kids and train them to make smarter choices. We of course brought along our WADWATS Anti-bullying campaign which Suzette facilitated. Unfortunately I was no longer in the area when they were giving this talk, but photos from the event showed a very attentive audience. I hope they were able to take home a lot of valuable things. It is truly inspiring to see a convergence of stakeholders really focusing on the needs of children. Many do not realize it but if we neglect their needs we are contributing to a decline in our society-- thus our future. I didn't get to post anything yesterday because I was very pre-occupied with the Typhoon Ruby. Days leading to its landfall in the Philippines, the international news community had already touted it as the biggest Typhoon in the entire world for 2014. We must have won the climate change lottery because this is the second time such a typhoon landed on our shores. (The first one being Typhoon Haiyan that arrived November last year killing more than 10,000 people.) So you can understand the trepidation, panic and fear many of us felt as the countdown to landfall came near. Typhoon Ruby was again to hit the Visayas region (the same area devastated by Haiyan) and come close to Legazpi (where I live). This made us go on high alert and begin Doomsday Prepping (American Style) by boarding up our house, stockpiling on food and water, gassing up our cars and doing rounds over all our businesses. Yesterday was the estimated landfall in Masbate, and will be worst felt by Legazpi at around 2-4pm. Alternating between awe and fear we watched as the winds ripped through the trees and greatly challenging the vertical strength of the electric poles. While there was mobile internet we would surf to update ourselves on the status of the storm and see who other regions were doing. At the same time, we would pray the Oratio Imperata for the safe delivery of the Philippines and speedy dissipation of the storm. As the day wore on updates from different weather authorities started coming in, the unanimous consensus was the Super Typhoon was getting slower and more importantly WEAKER! By the time it was to be near Legazpi, the typhoon was downgraded from a Super Typhoon to almost a Low Pressure Area Status. Can you imagine?? CAN YOU IMAGINE?!?! Call me a preacher but I will attribute this to the resilience and faith of the Filipinos. When natural calamities such as these come, and they come often, we prepare 2 ways: IN BODY by fixing our homes and stockpiling in supplies but more importantly we also prepare IN SPIRIT by counting on our strong faith and storming the heavens with our intercessions. It is no coincidence that the storm was arriving during a very important Catholic "observance" the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION which we celebrate today, Dec 8. Mama Mary (as she is affectionately called here) saved us as her "birthday" gift to the Filipino people. And what an awesome gift that is! I am uploading a few photos of Legazpi post-Ruby, taken along the Boulevard at 5:21pm. Winds were still strong causing massive waves but the best thing is we reported ZERO CASUALTY-- every single Legazpeno and Albayano was/is safe. to that I say, AMEN. |
